		<abstract>In this paper the methodology adopted for the development of a spatial data infrastructure (SDI) for the Brazilian National Department of Transportation Infrastructure (DNIT) is presented. Three characteristics form the base of this SDI: the first one is the database itself, the second one is the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), and the third one is the web map application. The heterogeneity is the main feature of DNITs data bases; they are composed from financial data to geological studies. The central aim of this project is to provide access to several data bases through the web for end users. This was accomplished by the SOA implementation associated with a Linear Referencing System. This architecture has shown to be scalable, fast to implement, and suitable for the absorption of data from legacy systems. The web map is the link layer between end users and databases. In this layer a user can access data, search for specific information, compose and print maps, as well as performing data download. This application has reached more than 10,000 accesses during the first six months of operation. The approach adopted in this project has been proved enough for big data sharing and data access for end users.</abstract>
